The more active December contract was down $2.07per barrel at US$85.11. <strong><u>U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell $1.74, or 2.1%, to settle at $79.49 per barrel.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>U.S. commercial crude oil inventories<\/u><\/strong> (excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve) <strong><u>decreased by 200,000 barrels week over week. <\/u><\/strong>At 430.6 million barrels, <strong><u>U.S. crude oil inventories are 2% below the five year average for this time of year.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"916\" height=\"397\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>U.S. crude oil imports averaged 6.4 million barrels per day during <\/u><\/strong>the week ending September 23rd, 2022, a decrease of 500,000 barrels per day week over week. Total carloads for the week ending September 24th were 345,969, down (-1.96%) compared with the same week in 2021, while Weekly intermodal volume was 324,393, down( -6.3%) compared to 2021. <strong><u>7 of the AAR\u2019s 11 major traffic categories posted year-over-year decreases<\/u><\/strong> with the most significant decrease coming from Other (-14.72%). The largest increase was from Motor Vehicles and Parts (+20.62%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the east, <strong><u>CSX\u2019s total volumes were up (+1.04%)<\/u><\/strong>, with the largest decrease coming from Forest Products (-14.30%) and the largest increase from Grain (+25.34%).&nbsp; <strong><u>NS\u2019s volumes were down (-6.28%),<\/u><\/strong> with the largest decrease coming from Other (-17.50%) and the largest increases from Motor Vehicles and Parts (+10.31%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the west, <strong><u>BN\u2019s total volumes were down (-8.65%)<\/u><\/strong>, with the largest decrease coming from Metallic ores and Minerals (-35.66%), and the largest increase coming from Motor Vehicles and Parts (+34.45%). <strong><u>UP\u2019s total rail volumes were up (+1.12%)<\/u><\/strong> with the largest decrease coming from Grain (-22.77%) and the largest increase coming from Motor Vehicles and Parts (+23.16%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Canada, <strong><u>CN\u2019s total rail volumes were down (-8.78%)<\/u><\/strong> with the largest decrease coming from Grain&nbsp; (-29.01%)&nbsp; and the largest increase coming from Motor Vehicles and Parts (+18.58%). <strong><u>CP\u2019s total rail volumes were down -5.93%<\/u><\/strong> with the largest decrease coming from Metallic Ores and Metals (-59.07%) and the largest increase coming from Other (+61.9%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>KCS\u2019s total rail volumes were down (-2.86%)<\/u><\/strong> with the largest decrease coming from Coal (-23.91%) and largest increase coming from Motor Vehicles and Parts (+92.94%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Source Data: AAR &#8211; PFL Analytics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color\" id=\"rig-count\"><strong><u>Rig Count<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>North American rig count was down by -1 week over week.
