autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/center>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>COVID-19 <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The United States currently has <strong><u>30,962,803 confirmed COVID 19 cases and 562,526 confirmed deaths.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">US Jobless Claims<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>The number of people seeking unemployment benefits fell sharply last week to 684,000, <\/u><\/strong>the fewest since the pandemic erupted a year ago and a sign that the economy is improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last Thursday\u2019s report from the Labor Department showed that jobless claims fell from 781,000 the week before. <strong><u>It is the first time that weekly applications for jobless aid have fallen below 700,000 since mid-March of last year.<\/u><\/strong> Before the pandemic tore through the economy, applications had never topped that level.&nbsp; <strong><u>The number of people seeking benefits under a federal program for self-employed and contract workers also dropped, to 241,000, from 284,000 a week earlier.<\/u><\/strong> All told, the number of applicants fell below 1 million for the first time since the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Markets were Mixed Week over Week; &nbsp;Cyclical Strong, Tech Weaker<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>The Dow closed higher on Friday of last week, up +453.40 (+1.39%) closing out the week at 33,072.88 points<\/u><\/strong>, up +441.91 points week over week.&nbsp; <strong><u>The S&amp;P 500 closed higher on Friday of last week, up +65.02 points (+1.66%) and closing out the week at 3,974.54<\/u><\/strong>, up +61.44 points week over week. &nbsp;&nbsp;<strong><u>The Nasdaq closed higher on Friday of last week, up +161.04 points (+1.24%) closing out the week at 13,138.72 <\/u><\/strong>points, down -76.52 points week over week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>In overnight trading, DOW futures traded lower and are expected to open down this morning 165 points.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Crude Flat Week over Week<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>WTI crude oil<\/u><\/strong> for April delivery <strong><u>rose +$2.41 to settle at $60.97 &nbsp;<\/u><\/strong>a barrel Friday of last week, down $0.47 a barrel week over week.&nbsp; <strong><u>Brent crude oil<\/u><\/strong> for May delivery <strong><u>also rose higher gaining $2.62<\/u><\/strong> a barrel on Friday of last week <strong><u>closing at $64.57 <\/u><\/strong>a barrel, up $.03 per barrel week over week.&nbsp; Oil barely moved last week as renewed lockdowns in Europe and Brazil muted the impact of the Suez Canal being shut.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>U.S. commercial crude oil inventories increased by 1.9 million barrels week over week.<\/u><\/strong> At 502.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are 6% above the five-year average for this time of year. <strong><u>Total motor gasoline inventories increased by 0.2 million barrels week over week<\/u><\/strong> and are 3% below the five-year average for this time of year. Finished gasoline inventories decreased while blending components inventories increased last week. <strong><u>Distillate fuel inventories increased by 3.8 million barrels week over week<\/u><\/strong> and are 1% above the five year average for this time of year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Propane\/propylene inventories increased by 0.2 million barrels week over week<\/u><\/strong> and are 13% below the five year average for this time of year. Total commercial petroleum inventories increased by 4.8 million barrels last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>U.S. crude oil imports averaged 5.6 million barrels per day week over week,<\/u><\/strong> up by 0.3 million barrels per day from the previous week. Over the past four weeks, crude oil imports averaged about 5.7 million barrels per day, 9.5% less than the same four-week period last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u><strong><u>Oil is higher in overnight trading and, as of the writing of this report, WTI is poised to open at $61.34, up 37 cents per barrel from Friday\u2019s close.&nbsp;<\/u><\/strong><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">North American Rail Traffic<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Total North American rail volumes were up 9.5% year over year in week 11<\/u><\/strong> (U.S. +11.6%, Canada +6.5%, Mexico -4.5%) resulting in year to date volumes that are up 3.4% year over year&nbsp; (U.S. +3.5%, Canada +5.7%, Mexico -5.7%). 5 of the AAR&#8217;s 11 major traffic categories posted year over year increases with the largest increases coming from intermodal (+18.8%), grain (+29.0%) and coal (+4.6%). The largest decreases came from chemicals (-7.1%) and nonmetallic minerals (-6.5%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the East, <strong><u>CSX\u2019s total volumes were up 2.4%, <\/u><\/strong>with the largest increase coming from intermodal (+13.9%). The largest decreases came from motor vehicles &amp; parts (-16.0%) and petroleum (-28.6%). <strong><u>NCS\u2019s total volumes were up 7.8%, <\/u><\/strong>with the largest increases coming from intermodal (+13.1%) and coal (+15.8%). The largest decrease came from petroleum (-31.0%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the West, <strong><u>BN\u2019s total volumes were up 16.4%,<\/u><\/strong> with the largest increases coming from intermodal (+29.1%) and grain (+37.4%). <strong><u>UP\u2019s total volumes were up 6.8%,<\/u><\/strong> with the largest increases coming from intermodal (+18.9%) and grain (+53.4%). The largest decreases came from chemicals (-12.4%) and motor vehicles &amp; parts (-14.2%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Canada, <strong><u>CN\u2019s total volumes were up 5.1%,<\/u><\/strong> with the largest increases coming from intermodal (+28.2%) and grain (+50.2%). The largest decreases came from petroleum (-29.3%) and coal (-31.4%). RTMs were down 4.4%. <strong><u>CP\u2019s total volumes were up 6.1%, <\/u><\/strong>with the largest increases coming from intermodal (+6.9%) and grain (+20.9%). RTMs were up 8.1%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>KCS\u2019s total volumes were up 2.1%, <\/u><\/strong>with the largest increases coming from petroleum (+39.3%) and coal (+82.1%). As of the writing of this report the ship Ever Given is partially free and traffic is to begin soon.&nbsp; <strong><u>With roughly 10% of world trade being disrupted the Canal has a long history of disruptions.<\/u><\/strong>&nbsp; Egypt nationalized the canal in 1956 and barred passage to Israeli ships. Israel then invaded the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip. Egypt then closed the canal to all traffic. It remained closed for the next six months.&nbsp; The Suez Canal closed yet again in 1967 after the Six-Day War between Israel and Egypt. This time, the waterway was shut to all traffic for eight straight years, until 1975.&nbsp; As far as the oil trade goes the long closure sparked the construction of Very large crude carriers known as VLCC\u2019s that can carry 2 million barrels of oil that can\u2019t navigate through the narrow canal, so by the time the canal reopened in 1975, the majority of oil tankers were simply too large to fit.&nbsp; That is why we have not seen oil prices go too crazy at least not yet as only the smaller crude tankers can fit through the canal.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><u>The world is changing quickly &#8211; Iran and China on Saturday signed a 25-year strategic cooperation agreement addressing economic issues amid crippling U.S. sanctions on Iran.<\/u><\/strong> The agreement, dubbed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, covers a variety of economic activity from oil and mining to promoting industrial activity in Iran, as well as transportation and agricultural collaborations.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><u>Petroleum by Rail \u2013<\/u><\/strong> <strong><u>The four-week rolling average of petroleum carloads carried on the sixth largest North American railroads &nbsp;rose to 26,340 <\/u><\/strong>from 25,396 week over week on the back of continuing improvement in weather conditions. &nbsp;Canadian volumes suffered on the back of weaker differentials <strong><u>CP shipments fell by 25% and CN volumes were down by 15.7%.<\/u><\/strong>&nbsp; U.S. rail road operators were mixed, the<strong><u> UP had the largest percentage decline, down by 18.2% while BN\u2019s shipments were up by 14.9%.<\/u><\/strong><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><u>Enbridge Line 5 &#8211; Ohio, Louisiana want to intervene in Line 5 federal lawsuit led by Michigan\u2019s Governor Gretchen Whitmer who wants the pipeline shut down. <\/u><\/strong>The states, led by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, filed a request seeking amici status in Enbridge&#8217;s case against the state government&#8217;s revocation of its 1953 easement through the Straits of Mackinac.&nbsp; Ohio could lose up to 1,000 refinery employees in Toledo if Line 5 were shut down, the motion said.&nbsp; &#8220;The threat is not limited to Ohio or its refineries; it extends to workers, consumers and industries throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and the surrounding region and could result in additional layoffs and other economic harm,&#8221; the motion said.<strong><u>&nbsp; The attempted closure of the pipeline has drawn criticism from the Canadian government, which also stands to lose refinery jobs and energy options should the pipeline be shuttered.<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><u><span style=\"color:#086aa3\" class=\"has-inline-color\">We have been extremely busy at PFL with return on lease programs involving rail car storage instead of returning cars to a shop.&nbsp; A quick turnaround is what we all want and need. &nbsp;&nbsp;Railcar storage in general has been extremely active.&nbsp; Please call PFL now at 239-390-2885 if you are looking for rail car storage, want to trouble shoot a return on lease scenario or have storage availability.&nbsp; Whether you are a car owner, lessor or lessee or even a class 1 that wants to help out a customer we are here to \u201chelp you help your customer!\u201d<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Railcar Markets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-vivid-red-color has-text-color\"><strong><u><strong><u>Leasing and Subleasing has been brisk as economic activity picks up. Curtis also co-founded of Great West Energy with his father in 1988. During the rapid growth of Great West Energy, Curtis oversaw information systems, managed supply purchasing &amp; sales, &amp; played a pivotal role in new market development.
