Hopes that an agreement could eventually restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz outweighed ongoing constraints on crude exports from the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brent crude settled at $79.36 per barrel, down 5.3%, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell 5.7% to close at $75.77 per barrel. Both benchmarks reached their lowest closing levels since mid-July as traders continued to unwind the geopolitical risk premium that had built up during the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Comments from U.S. and Qatari officials pointed to progress in discussions aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, although no final agreement has been reached. Diplomatic efforts remain ongoing, with negotiations focused on restoring commercial shipping while addressing Iran\u2019s demands regarding oversight of vessel traffic through the strategic waterway. Despite the improved outlook, tanker movements through both the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait remained largely unchanged and well below pre-conflict levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While expectations for a negotiated settlement weighed on prices, underlying supply risks persist. Middle Eastern oil exports remain constrained, and the market continues to monitor shipping activity closely for signs of a sustained recovery.
