Total carloads for the week ending on July 2 were 326,357, down (1.52%) compared with the same week in 2024, while weekly intermodal volume was 323,353, down (-1.52%) compared to the same week in 2024.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">7 of the AAR\u2019s 11 major traffic categories posted year-over-year decreases<\/span><\/strong>. The largest decrease came from Forest Products, which was down (-16.04%), while the largest increase was from Grain, which was up (+13.68%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the East,<strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CSX\u2019s total volumes were down&nbsp; (-2.74%)<\/span>, <\/strong>with the largest decrease coming from Chemicals (-15.13%), while the largest increase came from Grain (+15.16%). <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NS\u2019s volumes were down (-0.95%)<\/span>, <\/strong>with the largest increase coming from Grain (+15.32%), while the largest decrease came from Nonmetallic Minerals (-8.22%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the West, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">BN\u2019s total volumes were down (-0.52%)<\/span>, <\/strong>with the largest increase coming from Motor Vehicles and Parts (+21.05%), while the largest decrease came from Metallic Ores and Metals (-21.02%). <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">UP\u2019s total rail volumes were up (+0.43%)<\/span>, <\/strong>with the largest increase coming from Coal (+19.97%), while the largest decrease came from Metallic Ores and Metals (-9.47%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In Canada,<strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CN\u2019s total rail volumes were down (-5.2%)<\/span> <\/strong>with the largest increase coming from Grain (+15.76%) while the largest decrease came from Other (-25.63%).<strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CPKCS\u2019s rail volumes were down -21.73%<\/span>,<\/strong> with the largest increase coming from Nonmetallic Minerals (+4.24%), while the largest decrease came from Forest Products (-67.26%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><a id=\"_msocom_1\"><\/a><strong>Source Data: AAR &#8211; PFL Analytics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color\" id=\"rig-count\"><strong><u>Rig Count<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">North American rig count was up by 3 rigs week-over-week. The U.S. currently has 539 active rigs. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Canada&#8217;s rig count was up 11 rigs week-over-week, but down by -24 rigs year-over-year<\/span><\/strong>. Canada currently has 151 active rigs. This marks the fourth consecutive month of contraction, attributed largely to the impact of tariffs, which have continued to increase material costs, reduce production, and disrupt import and export volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The services sector contracted in June, with the ISM Services PMI decreasing to 49.2%<\/span><\/strong> from 49.9% in May, indicating a slight contraction. This downturn reflects ongoing concerns over trade tensions, rising input costs, and supply chain disruptions that have impacted business sentiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Conversely, S&amp;P Global\u2019s U.S. Services PMI rose to 54.1% in June<\/span><\/strong> from 53.7% in May, marking the 29th consecutive month of expansion.
