The implied value was US$64.34 per barrel.&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">U.S. commercial crude oil inventories<\/span><\/strong> (excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>increased by 1.4 million barrels week-over-week<\/strong><\/span>. At 430.7 million barrels, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">U.S. crude oil inventories are 5% below the five-year average for this time of year<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div ending August 9th, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">U.S. crude oil imports averaged 6.3 million barrels per day<\/span><\/strong> during the week ending August 9th, 2024, a<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">n increase of 61,000 barrels per day week-over-week<\/span><\/strong>. Total carloads for the week ending on August 14th were 344,045, down (-1.06%) compared with the same week in 2023, while weekly intermodal volume was 339,687, up (+8.48%) compared to the same week in 2023. 6 of the AAR\u2019s 11 major traffic categories posted year-over-year increases. The most significant decrease came from Metallic Ores and Metals, which was down (-13.38%). The most significant increase came from Grain which was up (+29.61%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the East, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CSX\u2019s total volumes were up (+0.86%)<\/span><\/strong>, with the largest decrease coming from Metallic Ores and Metals (-5.41%) while the largest increase came from Grain (+54.64%). <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NS\u2019s volumes were up (+3.88%)<\/span><\/strong>, with the largest increase coming from Other (+29.4%) while the largest decrease came from Petroleum and Petroleum Products (-14.08%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the West, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">BN\u2019s total volumes were up (+7.13%)<\/span><\/strong>, with the largest increase coming from Grain (+39.64%) while the largest decrease came from Metallic Ores and Metals down (21.67%). <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">UP\u2019s total rail volumes were up (+7.82%) <\/span><\/strong>with the largest decrease coming from Coal, down (-20.41%) while the largest increase came from Grain which was up (+27.72%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Canada, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CN\u2019s total rail volumes were down (-11.29%)<\/span><\/strong> with the largest decrease coming from Intermodal Units, down (-19.69%) while the largest increase came from Other, up (+18.03%). <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CP\u2019s total rail volumes were up (+14.57%)<\/span><\/strong> with the largest increase coming from Grain (+48.71%) while the largest decrease came from Coal, down (-18.66%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">KCS\u2019s total rail volumes were down (-12.17%) <\/span><\/strong>with the largest decrease coming from Intermodal (-22.17%) and the largest increase coming from Motor Vehicles and Parts (+15.88%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><a id=\"_msocom_1\"><\/a><strong>Source Data: AAR &#8211; PFL Analytics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-black-color has-text-color\" id=\"rig-count\"><strong><u>Rig Count<\/u><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">North American rig count was down by -2 rigs week-over-week. The US rig count was down by -2 rigs week-over-week and down by -56 rigs year-over-year<\/span><\/strong>. The US currently has 586 active rigs. <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Canada&#8217;s rig count was flat week-over-week, but up by 28 rigs year-over-year<\/span><\/strong>. Canada&#8217;s overall rig count is 217 active rigs.
